Margarito Flores Jr. - A Journey from Adversity to Redemption
Born in Chicago, Illinois, to immigrant parents, Margarito Flores Jr. experienced a tumultuous childhood. His father's incarceration during his early years and the absence of paternal guidance left a void in his life. However, little did Margarito know that his father's return would introduce him to a world that would shape his destiny.
Eager to reconnect with his father and learn from him, Margarito soon found himself unwittingly immersed in the drug trade. As his father resumed his illicit activities, Margarito and his twin brother became involved in cultivating, loading, and unloading drugs and money in concealed compartments. They gained firsthand experience in the intricate workings of the trade, adapting to the changing dynamics of the illicit market.
Their education in the drug trade continued when their father returned to Mexico, leaving them and their twin brother in the care of their older brother Armando, a drug kingpin involved in the cocaine trade. Guided by Armando, they transitioned from traditional schooling to mastering a different facet of the business.
Embracing their newfound roles, Margarito and his twin brother followed in their father and brother's footsteps, taking over the family business. By the time they were 18, they had become millionaires and established themselves as major wholesale drug suppliers in Chicago and the surrounding areas. Their operations extended beyond borders as they became the main distributors for the Sinaloa cartel in the United States. They imported and distributed tons of illegal narcotics into major cities across the United States and Canada, utilizing various modes of transportation, including cars, semi tractor-trailers, boats, airplanes, passenger buses, submarines, container ships, go-fast boats, and even trains. Throughout their lucrative drug trafficking career, they facilitated the movement of over $3 billion worth of bulk US currency back to Mexico.
In 2008, a life-altering epiphany struck Margarito and his brother. Fueled by a desire to protect their families and break free from the cycle of crime, they reached out to the government and made the decision to cooperate against the head of the Sinaloa cartel. Courageously turning themselves in, they embarked on a journey of redemption and justice. In 2015, they were sentenced to 14 years each for their crimes. Three years later, Margarito's brother testified against Mr. Guzmán in Brooklyn, New York, contributing to the dismantling of a powerful criminal organization. In 2020, they were finally released, eager to embrace a new chapter in their lives.
Now, Margarito seeks to share his captivating story to aid law enforcement in their ongoing battle against drug trafficking. With a firsthand understanding of the inner workings of the trade, he aims to shed light on its complexities and dangers, while advocating for change and prevention. Margarito's journey is a testament to the power of transformation, resilience, and the pursuit of redemption.
